Posted by: admin In: e-commerce security

Cracker behavior will impact negatively the development of e-commerce. On the one hand the owner of the commodity will be reluctant to apply e-commerce for fear that the target for the disabled, replace the display site or customer data was stolen. As for the consumers will be overshadowed by the fear that their personal data, including credit card numbers, will be hijacked by crackers. In a survey conducted by Americaâ € ™ s Federal Trade Commission (AFTC) as quoted by the magazine The Economist (May 1999 edition), 80 percent of Americans are worried about the possibility of the spread of personal data itself on the Internet. Meanwhile, according to a survey conducted by PC Data Online on February 15, 2000, with crime rampant on the Internet, 54 percent of respondents said that he would change his habits on the Internet habits. 80 percent of which will change the state will become less send credit card information over the Internet.

More interesting is the research done jointly by Information Week Research, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Reality Research on July 12, 2000 to approximately 4900 IT professionals from 30 countries. The results of these studies revealed that the reduction of viruses and other destructive acts committed by a cracker to suck funds worldwide business worth USD 1.6 trillion in 2000 alone. Also about the productivity of 40 thousand persons year will be lost because the computer was attacked crackers. 1 person year is equivalent to 1 person working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year long.

For the conditions in Indonesia, the results of a survey conducted by MarkPlus & Co.. presented at the conference entitled Leading Internet Brand Indonesia in 2000 on June 25, 2000 at Hotel Shangri-La Jakarta and published in Self magazine Sembada (No.11/XVI/30 edition May – June 12, 2001), can be used as reference. The survey itself was conducted on March 22, 2000 until 5 April 2000 by taking as many as 1,100 respondents from five major cities in Indonesia, namely Jabotabek 250 people, 200 people Bandung, Yogyakarta 150 people, Surabaya and Medan 200 people 100 people.

From the data collected from these respondents, portrayed that 14.2% of respondents began using the Internet less than 6 months, 25.9% between 6-12 months, 31.3% between 1-2 years ago, 13.7% between 2-3 years ago, 8.4% between 3-4 years ago and 6.6% are users who have used the Internet more than 4 years ago. Things that should be recognized on the results of the survey are:

â € œ90, 1 percent have never transact online with the reason for feeling worried (15.1 percent) or because of feeling unsafe / high risk (13.6 percent). This means that more than 25 percent of 1100 respondents are reluctant to transact e-commerce for fear that the safety factor transaction through Internetâ €??.

Based on a survey on the red thread can be drawn between the activities of cracking the value of e-commerce transactions. More frequent activities performed by cracking the crackers, the more worried consumers in transacting online on the Internet, it could decrease the value of transactions that can be captured through e-commerce.
